Rear connections for Ethernet and serial communications
ICS Triplex T8153C is a conformal-coated communications interface adapter for the rear of a Trusted controller chassis. It connects to the communications interface module and provides accessible Ethernet and serial connectors for external equipment, including remote systems and networked computers.
The adapter presents two Ethernet connections, four RS-485 ports and two RS-232 connections. Serial modes must match the communications interface configuration. The manufacturer recommends a different adapter for the gateway module; connector similarity does not establish equivalent gateway suitability.

What does T8153C connect?
It provides accessible rear Ethernet and serial connectors for the Trusted communications interface. It is an adapter, not the controller processor or a stand-alone communications interface. -
Which communications ports are available?
Two RJ45 10/100BaseT connections, four RS-485 ports and two RS-232 connections. RS-232 bank 1 is full; bank 2 is partial. Actual operation depends on the communications interface. -
Can banks 1 and 2 use both serial modes simultaneously?
No. The manufacturer says banks 1 and 2 cannot be used in RS-485 mode when the communications interface is configured for RS-232 on those ports. -
How is RS-485 termination selected?
Links provide 120 ohm AC termination on transmit and receive circuits. Use the original point-to-point or multi-drop example for the actual network; do not fit every link indiscriminately. -
Is signal ground the same as cable screening?
No. The manufacturer requires RS-485 signal ground to be connected and says not to connect it to the cable screen. Follow the original grounding and screening instructions. -
Can this adapter be used as the recommended gateway connection?
No. The manufacturer recommends T8173 for T8170 gateway use because it provides the appropriate Ethernet and keyboard, video and mouse connections. Do not infer gateway suitability from port appearance. -
Must the communications interface be removed for fitting?
Yes. The installation section requires removing the communications interface, then mating the rear adapter and sliding it upward until it clicks into place. Apply the approved isolation and maintenance procedure. -
Does the C suffix identify hardware Series C?
No. It identifies the conformal-coating order option. Verify the actual hardware series separately on the product label.
